Submission Guidelines:
Wild Tongues accepts submissions until November 23rd at 11:59 PM. You do not have to be a university student to submit, as we believe that people of all educational statuses and backgrounds should have the opportunity for publication. Genre-specific guidelines can be found below. If you have any questions about what we accept, if your piece aligns with what we accept, or anything else, email us at wildtonguesjour@gmail.com Though we ask you to provide your name and email in the submission form, all submitted work is reviewed anonymously. You may submit to more than one genre, but no more than three pieces per genre. We do accept simultaneous submissions. Please indicate if your submission is simultaneous or not in the designated section on the submission form. Notify us immediately if it is accepted elsewhere. Wild Tongues cannot afford to pay its contributors at this time. However, we do our best to promote our contributors’ work through social media and publication.
What We're Looking For:
Pieces that convey strong emotion and/or messaging about 1) Injustice/Justice • Includes topics of disability, queerness, immigration, race/ethnicity, sexism/misogyny, colonialism/imperialism, equality, and other topics focused on identities and oppression or liberation. 2) Freedom/Liberty • Including but not limited to the wanting, seeking, struggling for, and experience of it. 3) The personal • Internal (sometimes conflicting) emotions, desires, dreams/goals, hopes, the psyche, and emotional and/or mental health. If you feel your piece may align with these themes, but is not mentioned here or you are otherwise uncertain, please email us at wildtonguesjour@gmail.com.
Genre-Specific Submission Guidelines:
Literary; • Titles should be included in the file name and document. The file name should be the title only. In the document, the title should be at the top of the page. • Format everything in Times New Roman, 12-point font with 1-inch margins. Submit pieces as .pdf or .docx. • Flash Fiction - About 500-1000 words per story. • Fiction - Word count of 1000-5000 words. Please do NOT submit novel excerpts, unless it is a short story based on an idea from your novel or otherwise stand alone from your novel. • Creative Nonfiction - 1000-5000 words. All nonfiction stories must be your own experiences. • Poetry - No word count, but please keep it to no more than 5 pages. • Essays - Please submit the entire work regardless of length. • Scripts or plays - 1000-5000 words. Subsequent submissions are not accepted. Multimedia; • Titles should be included in the file name. The file name should be the title only. • Multimedia includes: • Photography • Music • Art (painting, illustrations, graphic design, pictures of your sculptures/pottery, etc.) • Videos
Submission Form:
For each category you are submitting in, please fill out a separate form. For example, if you are submitting two pieces to poetry and one piece to music, fill out one form with the two poetry submissions and another with the music submission. Publishing rights revert back to author/artist following publication.
